Doitsu were originally imported from Germany to Japan in the late 1800′s as a food fish. Doitsu have either no scales at all and referred to as “leather carp”, or they have a line of large scales along their lateral and dorsal lines and are referred to a “mirror carp”.

There is a Doitsu version of almost every variety. So it is best to ask your supplier which country he has got his fish from.
